by City of Richmond PR

RICHMOND -- The City of Richmond is in the pathway of history as it hosts three stops on the America 250 Boone's Trace Hike from June 4-5.

To mark the 250th anniversary of Daniel Boone and his axe men carving the path from Tennessee to Kentucky, teams of hikers are following in their historic footsteps. Starting from Kingsport, Tennessee on April 23 the group has averaged traversing roughly 10 miles each day, symbolically passing a replica axe along the way.

The three stops in the Richmond area are (times are approximate):
June 4
1. Pleasant View House at Battlefield Park at 10:30 AM
1546 Battlefield Memorial Hwy, Richmond, KY
2. Fort Twetty at 1:30 PM
Arbor Woods Way, Richmond, KY
June 5
3. Gibson Bay (Golf Clubhouse) at 10:30 AM
2000 Gibson Bay Dr, Richmond, KY

At Battlefield Park, Phillip Seyfrit will share history from the Battle of Richmond, and at Fort
Twetty, Tom Black will give a brief talk on the fort.

Hikers will travel to Gibson Bay the next day to be greeted by Richmond Mayor Robert Blythe and Tourism Director Lori Tatum.

A website provides the progress of the hikers along the route and the “Boone Trace 250 Ax
Tracker” displays a map highlighting the journey. Visit https://www.boonetrace250.com/

According to America’s 250th website, https://america250.org/americas-250th/, the
Boone’s Trace Hike is part of the U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission whose mission
seeks to celebrate and commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The commission states their nonpartisan work is a multi-year effort toward community engagement.
